It's the New Year!!!

Our front yard the morning of 3Jan2001
In Japan, people bring in the New Year by going to the local Shinto shrine and offering a prayer for health and prosperity in the New Year. We went, too. The kids are holding streamers from the crackers everyone set off at midnight. In the background you can see the line of folks waiting to go to the door of the shrine. The encouraging part is EVERYONE is there--families, groups of teenagers, grandparents, etc. It's nice to see the young people carry on traditions on their own. We held off on our Christmas tradition of cookies to the neighbors and instead passed them out New Years day.
Our back yard where the business behind us parks their cars. Are they going to have fun when they come to work tomorrow! Jan. 1-3 is a national holiday here, so they're home staying warm today. Our front yard before the sun came up completely. It was still snowing when I took these. It's stopped now--07:50, but it's still supposed to snow more. See below for the forecast from Yahoo!
